Sim Race SA announces 2019.2 championship season plans, sign-up now open!

Jason Holden-Jones, Sim Race SAs Esport Co-ordinator, has confirmed the plans for the new 2019.2 South African sim racing championship season. The season will kick off on 15 July 2019 and end on 04 December 2019.

The element of progression racing will carry over from the 2019.1 season, however a more limited format will be used to aid stability for the division entrants. Sim racers will have to qualify for the SA simGT Series and SA simGP Series Division 1 racing by achieving a top 22 result in the ‘Round 0’ division qualifying sessions. Thereafter race qualifying results will see changes in the division entry lists for following rounds regarding the top/bottom three drivers.

The PC version of Assetto Corsa, selected DLC, and third party mod add-on packs will be used. The Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition is currently on special on Steam, 77% off the normal price. The Ultimate Edition includes all DLC available for the simulator.

After an intense 2019.1 season, the SA simGT Series sees a further tweak to the Balance of Performance (BOP) figures for the GT3 spec cars. The SA simGP Series will see a change of car. The new RSS 2 Formula V6 2018 developed by RaceSimStudio replaces the outgoing RSS Formula V10 car.

The new 2019.2 Road to Season 2020.1 Series is designed to offer a starting point for new sim racers to develop themselves for Season 2020.1 using forgiving cars in a close racing environment, non-championship format. As the season progresses, faster cars, both tin-top and open wheel, will be raced. The Road to Season 2020.1 Series rounds will feature shorter multiple races and reverse grid starts.

All championship races for the 2019.2 season will use a single 90 minute race format, that will follow a 15 minute qualifying session. Drivers will need to make at least one pit-stop in each race.

The 2019.2 South African sim racing season includes:

Who will challenge 2019.1 SA simGT Series Drivers’ Champion Jim Clark, and 2019.1 SA simGP Series Champion Timothy Haynes? It could be you…  All sim racers, novice and experienced, are welcome to sign-up for the new season by visiting the 2019.2 Sign-up page.
