Sim Race SA announces 2019.1 championship season plans, sign-up now open!

Jason Holden-Jones, Sim Race SAs Esport Co-ordinator, has confirmed the plans for the new 2019.1 South African sim racing championship season. The season will kick off on 04 February 2019 and end on 26 June 2019.

The element of progression racing will carry over from the 2018.2 season. Sim racers have to qualify for each SA simGT Series Division 1 round by achieving a certain race result in the SA simGP Series race or SA simV8 Series race leading up to it. The PC version of Assetto Corsa, and selected DLC and third party mod add-on packs will be used.

The SA simGP Series will see a change of car. The new RSS 2000 Formula V10 car developed by RaceSimStudio replaces the outgoing RSS 2 V8 2017, bringing an engine power increase to 800hp and the removal of the the DRS system.

The SA simV8 Series is a new formula at Sim Race South Africa using the V8 Supercars mod developed by V8Corsa. The cars include; the Ford Falcon FGX, the Holden Commodore ZB and the Nissan Altima L33.

All championships for the 2019.1 season will use a single 90 minute race format, that will follow a 15 minute qualifying session. Drivers will need to make at least one pit-stop in each race.

Those who do not qualify for the next SA simGT Series Division 1 round through the SA simV8 Series or SA simGP rounds can try their hand at either securing  a top 5 fastest lap time in the SA simGT LCQ round (Last Chance Qualifier) or a top 3 finish in the SA simGT Series Division 2 race.

The 2019.1 South African sim racing season includes:

  • SA simGT Series (Flagship Series)
  • SA simGP Series (Host of qualification races for SA simGT Division 1)
  • SA simV8 Series (Host of qualification races for SA simGT Division 1)
  • SA simGT LCQ Series (Last Chance Qualifier hot-lap qualifying session for SA simGT Division 1 )

Who will challenge 2018.2 SA simGT Series Drivers’ Champion Basheer Jadwat? It could be you…  All sim racers, novice and experienced, are welcome to sign-up for the new season by visiting the 2019.1 Sign-up page.
