RSA Protea SimSports has confirmed it will contest both the 2018/19 Virtual Endurance Championship (VEC) and the Virtual Le Mans Series (VLMS), hosted by SimRacing.Club. The team will run the Porsche 911 RSR against the BMW M8 and Corvette C7.R in the GTE class.
As traditionally done in the past, the team has looked to the Sim Race South Africa sanctioned simulation racing championships in search of exciting new talents to bolster their driver line-up for major international competition. After graduating from the Sim Racing.Club Academy (SRCA), Christopher Langeveldt and Quayde Claassens have joined Brent Lindsay-Rae, Chris Heyneke, and Gert James in the team’s VLMS squad.
Stalwarts Boyd Bryson, Gert James, Jason Holden-Jones, and Lance Garassino will continue to strive to achieve the team’s current main objective of acquiring entry to the Division 1 VEC championship. The team has been placed in Division 2, of 4, for the new season. With over 140 teams and well over 400 drivers taking part, the VEC is the official Rfactor 2 league based on the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
The team is proud to announce it’s partners for the new season; ATK Shack (Esports lounge in Claremont Cape Town), GameNation SA (Media Partner), MettleState (Pro Gaming Organistation), and Sim Race South Africa.
Gert James and Quayde Claassens will tackle the first race of the new season; the VLMS Istanbul Park 4-hour from 17:00 (SA time) this Saturday 29 September 2018. The race can be watched live on SimRacing.Club’s Youtube Channel.
