Sim Race SA announces 2018.2 season plans, sign-up now open

Jason Holden-Jones, Sim Race SAs eSport Co-ordinator, has confirmed the plans for the new 2018.2 sim racing season.

The element of progression racing will carry over from the 2018.1 season, whereby sim racers have to qualify for each SA simGT Series Division 1 round by achieving a certain race result in the qualifying race or session leading up to it.

The SA simGP Series, using the Formula RSS 2 model made by Race Sim Studios, will continue for 2018.2, this time with restrictive DRS rules being applied. The SA simGT4 Series makes a return using the Maserati MC Gran Turismo GT4 and Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Both race qualifying rounds require a top 7 finish for entry to the following main SA simGT Series Division 1 event. All championships for the 2018.2 season will use a single 90 minute race format, that will follow a 15 minute qualifying session. Drivers will need to make at least one pit-stop in each race.

Those who do not qualify for the next SA simGT Series Division 1 round through the SA simGT4 Series or SA simGP rounds can try their hand at either securing  a top 5 fastest lap time in the SA simGT LCQ round (Last Chance Qualifier) or a top 3 finish in the SA simGT Series Division 2 race.

The 2018.2 racing season includes:

  • SA simGT Series (Flagship Pro Series, Division 1 and 2)
  • SA simGP Series (Pro Single Seater Series, and host of qualification races for SA simGT Division 1)
  • SA simGT4 Series (Host of qualification races for SA simGT Division 1; Division 1 and 2)
  • SA simGT LCQ Series (Last Chance Qualifier hot-lap qualifying session)

Who will challenge 2018.1 SA simGT Series Drivers’ Champion Basheer Jadwat? It could be you…  All sim racers, novice and experienced, are welcome to sign-up for the new season by visiting the 2018.2 Sign-up page (found here). The sign-up form can be found at the bottom of anyone of the ‘introduction’ pages.

While the 2018.2 season is confirmed for the moment to only use the PC platform version of Assetto Corsa, interest for a Tuesday evening PS4 Project Cars 2 based league is currently being evaluated, interest can expressed by replying to the; Playstation 4 league interest thread on the forum.
