Absmeier kicked off his Speedstars campaign on 24 November 2017 at the Kyalami Festival of Speed, just one of the country wide gymkhana style qualifying rounds, by beating the best sixteen public entrants to secure an entry to the final round held at Zwartkops Raceway. The final consisted of; a six lap handicap race, eight race prepared VW Polo TSis, six celebrity finalists, and two public finalists. On the morning of the final the weather decided to add an element of the unknown by keeping the track wet throughout proceedings.

Absmeier took on celebrities, 5FM DJ; Rob Forbes, Blitz Bok; Kwagga Smith, Comedians; Joey Rasdien and Richelieu Beaunior, Social Media Law Specialist; Emma Sadleir, and Entrepreneur; Cliff “pig spotter” Pinto. The second public finalist was Louis Pires.

After the seven cars set off to start the race, the lights finally turned green for Absmeier. An uneventful lap 1 led to a breathtaking moment on lap 2 which saw Absmeier wrestle the car back into control after a large puddle ‘chewed up and spat out’ the rear tyres pitching the car violently to the right on the main straight. (For those of you who do not know the track; the main straight follows a large radius to the left before the first corner, we can only imagine what it was like in the car!). Using his experience from competing in many simulation racing competitions; Absmeier recovered well to avoid a spinning Pires and Sadleir, and to later pass Forbes, Richelieu, Smith and Rasdien. Pinto did cross the finish line first, however he was penalised for a driving infringement involving another car.

Absmeier has won an all expenses paid trip to France for a Tyre Testing Driving Experience at Goodyear, as well as a day with VW Motorsport at the 2018 World Rallycross Round in Mettet, Belgium.
