Getting Started 2017.2

1.0          Season introduction

Sim Race SA is happy to announce its plans for the 2017.2 online sim racing season. The season will use the PC version of Assetto Corsa, and it’s associated Dreampacks. The 2017.2 season will start on 11 September 2017 and end on 29 November 2017.

As membership has grown to be more than the limited 20 grid slots available per race, three groups will be accommodated for each championship round, the three groups are named; Series, Challenge an Cup. Series is the top-split (fastest 20 drivers), Challenge the middle-split (next 20 fastest drivers), and Cup the lower-split (next 20 fastest drivers).

The first goal for the 2017.2 season is to qualify for each round of Sim Race SAs flagship championship; the SA sim GT Series (top-split), the series-split is where the most amount of championship points are available. Championship points can still be earned in a SA simGT Challenge (middle-split), and SA simGT Cup (lower-split),  rounds however. The SA simGT Series (top-split) races will take place every second Monday, and the SA simGT Challenge (lower-split) and Cup (lower-split) races will take place every second Wednesday.

2.0          How to qualify for each SA simGT Series (top-split) round

2.1         The SA simM2 Series

The road to each SA simGT Series (top-split) round begins with participation in a SA simM2 Series (top-split) round beforehand, where a top 12 race result is required.

To achieve a SA simM2 Series (top-split) grid slot, drivers will need to achieve a top 20 lap time in practice by the Sunday before each round, those who do not qualify can race in the SA simM2 Challenge (middle-split) and Cup (lower-split) race. The top 3 finishers from the SA simM2 Challenge (middle-split) will earn a grid slot for the following SA simM2 Series (top-split) round. The top 3 finishers in the Cup (lower-split) will earn a grid slot for the following SA simM2 Challenge (middle-split) round.

The SA simM2 Series and Challenge will use the BMW M235i Racing car.

2.2       The SA simGT Challenge / Cup

The top 3 finishers from the SA simGT Challenge (lower-split) will earn a grid slot for the following SA simGT Series (top-split) round. The top 3 finishers in the Cup (lower-split) will earn a grid slot for the following SA simGT Challenge (middle-split) round.

2.3        The Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ)

If the required top 12 SA simM2 Series (top-split) result is not achieved, drivers can then attempt to achieve a top 5 result in the combined SA simGT Series Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ1 and LCQ2) hot-lap sessions.
