South African Stephen Simpson claims second in class for 2016 Rolex 24 At Daytona start
During a rain soaked and tricky final qualifying session on Friday, South African Stephen Simpson enjoyed a solid performance to give JDC Miller MotorSports a second in the Prototype Challenge (PC) class and a 17th overall starting position for the prestigious Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Piloting the #85 Ocreca FLM09, Simpson’s first attempt proved very cautious, however relatively quick to result in a 2:42.263 and provisional pole position before dropping back to third where he stayed until an impressive final attempt netted him a 2:07.485, and second in class. Simpson will share the 24 hour drive with teammates; Chris Miller (USA) and Mikhail Goikhberg (Canada).
Another South African, Dion von Moltke had a difficult time in the GTD class, the #9 Stevenson Motorports Audi R8 LMS GT3 did not register a time. von Molkte will share #9 Audi with Tristan Vautier (France), Boris Said (USA) and Kenny Habul (Australia)
The Rolex 24 at Daytona will be streamed live this weekend from http://www.imsa.com. The race will start at 9:00PM (South African time) on Saturday 30 January 2016.
