GTS Round 5 Race 2: Liebenberg strikes back at Monza
Juan Liebenberg (#88 Phantom GhostworX) claimed victory of race two at the Monza round of the 2015.1 SA simGT Sprint series.
Starting from third position, Liebenberg produced a lightning start to catapult himself up into the race lead on entry to the opening corner. The pole position starter, Jason Holden-Jones (#22 H-J Motorsport), tried desperately to stick with Liebenberg until pressure from the third placed man, Boyd Bryson (#81 Xtreme Racing), no longer made that possible. Exiting Ascari, Holden-Jones clipped enough of the inside curb to unsettle and force the car into a high-speed spin. Bryson did enough to miss Holden-Jones’s Mercedes-Benz to move up into second position.
Philip Lategan (#14 Prodigy Motorsport) and Chris Heyneke (#13 Heyneke Racing Team) enjoyed a race long close battle for fourth position.
A consistent and faultless drive earned Liebenberg his third win of the season to see him move up into second position in the drivers championship standings, just two points ahead of Bryson.
The sixth and final round of the 2015.1 SA simGT Series takes place on 04 May 2015.
