SS1 Round 2: Absmeier fends off Steyn for Imola triumph
The 2015.1 SA simSS1 Series round at Imola was won by Jason Absmeier (Trigon Revlimit Racing).
Absmeier started from pole position to lead the spirited battle between teammate Peter van Vuuren and Markus Steyn (Shadow GhostworX). It took Steyn ten laps to produce a breathtaking pass, around the racing line, on van Vuuren.
By lap 12 the gap Absmeier was enjoying, to second position, started to diminish as Steyn began his onslaught for the lead. Absmeier then decided to pit on lap 14, this released Steyn into the lead. The excitement grew as the big question at that stage was whether Steyn could extend his race lead to include a pit-stop and rejoin the track ahead of Absmeier.
Steyn put together a stunning four laps to exit the pits, with just a car length back to Absmeier, in the race lead .
Absmeier fought back while Steyn battled to raise his tyres to operating temperature, this allowed Absmeier with a better exit out of the Alte Chicane to swoop passed at the kink before Rivazza.
Steyn spent the rest of the race pressuring Absmeier, however it would be to no avail as Absmeier drove a fantastic end to the race to secure victory at Imola.
Peter van Vuuren (Trigon Revlimit Racing) did well to outgun Jonathan Bentz (Squadro GhostworX) for the final podium position.
