Basheer Jadwat, of Squadro GhostworX, has won the 2014 SA simSS3 Series drivers championship.
The 2014 SA simSS3 Series included 21 drivers with varied levels of ‘real world’ and sim racing experience to create what must be the most competitive season ever hosted by Sim Race South Africa. It took Jadwat 11 wins and two more appearances on the podium to confirm his championship win.
“I am over the moon to have won the champs. We had a great bunch of drivers who pushed me to improve and to up my game from the first test session at Nurburgring. I went into this league the most committed I have ever been. It was my mission to do well. Especially coming off a poor showing in the GTR2 league for my liking.” says Jadwat
Jadwat has been associated with sim racing for around 6 years taking part in many championships over the years from Formula 1, Supercar Challenge, Gran Turismo, rFactor, GTR2 and more recently Assetto Corsa.
“I cant compare it to anything else I have competed in. the level of competition was intense but there was always a sense of camaraderie that was felt. It was really a pleasure racing with some of the best guys in the community.”
Jadwat acknowledged the challenges of the season and thanked those who supported him through the season:
“The most challenging race for me was Mugello, really had a tough one there but I never gave up and tried to make my way through. Most satisfying was Silverstone GP. Both Denis and Chris made me work really hard for those and that’s what I do this for. Close behind is also the last race at Imola with Markus.”
“Toughest competitor is a tough one, firstly my teammates at GhostworX. We are all very competitive in nature and this helped motivate and push me to the best of my abilities then at the races it was always Denis and Jason A who on their day made it necessary for me to give it 110% to keep up.”
“I would like to thank our sponsors, Afrihost, IDS group and our latest sponsor Simbits for their faith in us to put their branding on our cars. My team mates Jono, Markus, Chris, Joe and Willem for the countless hours of practice and tuning sessions. Jono again for the epic Skins. The guy is a creative genius. My family for their understanding at evenings are my race times.”
“I would last but not least like to thank Sim Race South Africa for running the most professional series I have been part of. Hopefully next years grids are bursting at the seams.”
Jadwat hinted at entering the proposed 2015 SA simSS1 Series which would be a natural progression from the SS3 Series.
“I plan to race the 2015 SimraceSA series. Perhaps the Lotus Exos will be the next. Will take it as it comes.”
The 2015 SA simSS1 Series is planned to include the Lotus Exos T125 S1 car (Assetto Corsa) which is based on Formula 1 levels of performance. Details of the championship, including a team application date, will be released during the coming weeks.
