Basheer Jadwat (Sqaudro GhostworX) bounced back from a difficult Race 1 to win Race 2 of the Monza round of the 2014.2 SA simGT Series.
The top 3 starters, Jadwat, Jonathan Bentz (Squadro GhostworX) and Denis Mitchell (SH Racing) all maintained their positions after navigating Rettifillo (turn 1 chicane). A magic start by Craig Hume (Hippo Rock Racing) saw him rocket up to 4th from 6th on the grid. Further chaotic scenes were brought at Rettifillo when Chris Browne (GhostworX 3.0) did enough to pitch Juan Liebenberg (Team Ryoku) into a half-spin. The incident caused a chain like reaction through field causing contact with between many cars. The incident also re-shuffled the order to help both Taurus Racing cars of Cliffton Bridge and Quintin Haarhoff to emerge in 6th and 7th position respectively.
A wide Bentz, leaving Curva di Lesmos (turn 5), allowed Mitchell passed before Curva del Vialone (turn 7). With the order at the front now changed, the question was whether Mitchell could close up to Mitchell and challenge for him victory.
Lap 4 saw Hume and Markus Steyn (Rebel GhostworX) resume their 4th place battle from Race 1, this time with Cliffton Bridge (Taurus Racing) bearing down on them.
The fight for the lead saw no further change in position however the manner in which the 3 cars were being handled, especially being so close together made for an exciting spectacle.
“What can I say besides this race was one of THE most intense ever. 3 drivers all within a 10th of a second for the entire race. I don’t think I blinked the entire race through. Denis was hounding me to no end and I had to drive over the limit for the duration of the race. It was great pressure and both guys drove brilliantly. That should make for one hell of replay video!
Well done to Denis and Jono for the podiums and massive thanks to the guys who we lapped in the midst of our massive battle.” says Jadwat
