SS3 Round 6 Race 1: Untroubled Jadwat dominates at the ring
Basheer Jadwat (Squadro GhostworX) comfortably won Race 1 of Round 6 of the SA simSS3 Series at the Nürburgring.
A good start by all the front runners saw no change in position during the opening few corners, however the run to turn 1 saw an innocent Ken Hunter (Xtreme Racing) spun around by contact from Quintin Haarhoff (Taurus Racing). Jonathan Bentz (Squadro GhostworX) too was involved after having no where to go but into the front of Hunters’s car. After showing good pace in practice Hunter was forced to rebuild from the back of the field.
Chris Browne (GhostworX 3.0) was showing great pace during the opening lap in 2nd position only to pit for a drive through penalty that he received from the previous round at Silverstone. This released Jason Absmeier (Revlimit Racing), sporting his Cancer Awareness livery for October, to attempt to catch Jadwat who by lap 3 had opened his lead to 4 seconds.
Browne’s opening lap drive through dropped him down the field to re-join in 11th behind Dean Rautenbach (Hippo Rock Racing), Browne passed Rautenbach on entry to the NGK Chicane and later Marius van Wyk (Xtreme Racing) for 9th at turn 6. The half way point of the race saw Steyn, Steven Pelser (Revlimit Racing), Juan Liebenberg (Team Ryoku) and Willem van Zyl (JVR GhostworX) locked in a stalemate as the drivers kept matching each other on pace.
Basheer Jadwat managed his lead back to Absmeier to take victory of Race 1. Pelser, with a superior drive out of the Schumacher Esses, pulled off a great move to pass Steyn for the last remaining podium position.
”Managed a good start and was able to pull a reasonable gap on the first lap to feel comfortable from Chris who dived into the pits for his drive through. After this I just kept on plugging in some quick laps and was able to maintain a margin from Jason and Steven behind to finish first.” said Jadwat
