SS3 Round 4 Race 2: Perfect round for Mitchell

Denis Mitchell (SH Racing) won race 2 of round 4 of the South African simSS3 Series at Mugello.

As was seen in during race 2’s start Mitchell found himself using a better line alongside Juan Liebenberg (Team Ryoku) on the approach to San Donato. Benjamin Wheeler again sustained early race contact to recover from the back of the field. The opening lap saw a frantic fight between Liebenberg, Absmeier and Bentz for 2nd position allowed Mitchell to ease away and extend his lead.

Lap 3 saw Jason Absmeier (Revlimit Racing) use to much curve at Arrabiata 1 put him into a high speed spin. Basheer Jadwat (Squadro GhostworX) reacted well to not collect Absmeier and maintain track position ahead of teammate Jonathan Bentz.

Willem van Zyl (JVR GhostworX), Craig Hume (Hippo Rock Racing) and Markus Steyn (GhostworX 3.0) got together from lap 5 onward to do battle for 3rd position all the way to the end of the 11 lap race. Hume performed a text book move on van Zyl to pass him for 4th at San Donato (turn 1) and left a move on Steyn right to the last lap at Scaperia (turn 10) where it all went wrong as Hume and Steyn made contact forcing both cars off into the gravel trap. Van Zyl profited from this netting a podium position finish.

Mitchell secured both pole positions, led every lap and won both races to make it a perfect score.

”Once again I managed a good start beat Juan into turn 1. Juan was being attacked hard by Jason but he managed to defend excellently keeping Jason back, all the while I pulled a gap. Jason then spun on lap 2 I think. From then on it was Juan shadowing me, but the shadow steadily grew till the last 2 laps were the stutters and my tyres did not see eye to eye so i decided to play safe and rather ease off a bit and make sure to avoid the curbs. Towards the end Juan caught me a bit but i was able to cruise home for yet another win for SH Racing.” said Mitchell
